More police as Sooke grows

Sooke is a safe community. Good planning will help keep it that way.

We now have 24/7 policing, but that doesn't mean there are lots of officers on duty. Some nights there may be just two.

The 2026 budget added two municipal officers, and the plan is to add one more each year, reaching 21 by 2031. We support that plan.

We also support using civilian staff where it makes sense, freeing officers from paperwork so they can spend more time in our community.

Policing needs to catch up with Sooke's growth – and then keep pace with it.

On October 17, vote Sooke Together: Helen Ritts, Steve Sorensen, Susan Belford and Brian McHattie for Council.
