Sooke Together

Keeping it Sooke!

Our Platform

What is Sooke Together? We're your neighbours. We care deeply about this community and share the values, experience, and energy we'd like to bring to Sooke Council after the October 17 election.

We're asking for your interest, your questions, and your support.

We believe community voices deserve to be heard, public dollars must be spent wisely, and planning in the public interest should remain at the heart of every decision Council makes.

Our platform is rooted in four connected priorities:

  • Planning for the Public, not Private interest

  • Public health and safety

  • Development of the local economy

  • Connected neighbourhoods and transportation

Together, these priorities reflect a simple commitment: to further Sooke’s prosperity in a way that is thoughtful, financially responsible, environmentally sound, and true to the character of the community we love.

Investments

We believe the community should benefit from the work it has already invested in. We will support the implementation of Sooke's Official Community Plan, Transportation Master Plan, climate action work, and other community-driven plans that have already benefited from significant public input, staff expertise, tax dollars, and community energy.

We will not discard good planning and start over, wasting resources, delaying progress, and weakening public trust.

Where good work has been done, we will build on it. Where concerns remain, we will listen carefully and make improvements.

Development of the Local Economy

We will support a stronger local economy rooted in Sooke by encouraging local business, mixed use development in the Town Centre featuring commercial space fitting the needs of local business, local agriculture and food processing, tourism opportunities that fit Sooke’s identity, and practical zoning updates that help the community move forward.

Health & Safety

Sooke Together will prioritize public health and safety by supporting emergency services, emergency preparedness, road safety, and community based health solutions.

We will engage with you, whether you’re young, old, well off, or having difficulty making ends meet.

We are proud to have Sooke’s former fire chief running on our team to promote municipal best practices, strengthen emergency services, build regional partnerships and prepare Sooke for the challenges that come with a growing community.

Connected Neighbourhoods & Transportation

We will focus on transportation improvements that our Council can control, such as safer routes to schools, sidewalks, trails, cycling infrastructure, local road connections, and better links between neighbourhoods. At the same time, we will forcefully advocate for provincial action on Highway 14 and improvements in public transit.

Honest Conversations

We will have honest conversations in the community about services, taxes, and the long-term financial health of our municipality.

As Sooke grows, so do the demands on our infrastructure, emergency services, parks, and community facilities.

We will make thoughtful, transparent decisions that consider the long-term consequences, carefully balance community needs with the ability of residents to pay, and ensure public dollars are used wisely and responsibly.

Environment

Across all of this work, we will place environmental responsibility at the centre of decision making. Protecting farmland, forests, wildlife corridors, streams, wetlands,  shorelines, and clean air and water is not separate from affordability, safety, or economic resilience. It is part of how Sooke remains a healthy and beautiful place to live.
