Meet Susan Belford

Susan has a clear vision for what Sooke can become – an attractive, safe and resilient West Coast town that looks after both its people and the place we call home.

A retired mediator and community engagement facilitator, Susan has spent her career listening to people, finding common ground and helping turn good ideas into action.

She believes development needs to be considered beyond the lot line – protecting streams and wetlands, respecting wildlife corridors, and understanding the long-term costs to the community. Susan also sees tremendous potential in Sooke’s local economy: supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs, creating more local jobs, celebrating arts and culture, and building on opportunities in agriculture and eco-tourism.

And she brings compassion to the Council table. For Susan, decisions about affordability, public safety, housing and community services are ultimately about the people who live here.

Susan wants Sooke to prosper without losing the people, environment and character that make it special.
