Growth needs to be supported with infrastructure

It's easy to keep taxes low if we put off the things we'll eventually have to pay for.

Sooke grew quickly for years while taxes were kept artificially low. But we didn't keep pace with the firefighters, police, roads, sidewalks, parks and recreation, and other infrastructure a growing community needed. Now we're having to catch up.

This isn't about blame. It's about learning from the past and planning differently.

Going forward, growth and infrastructure need to be planned together. We need to know what we can support, what we'll need, what it will cost, and how and who will pay for it. We need to plan ahead so our infrastructure and services keep pace with our community.

On October 17, vote Sooke Together: Susan Belford, Brian McHattie, Helen Ritts, and Steve Sorensen for Council.
