The truth about Throup Road

We all want better road connections in Sooke. But wanting a road and being able to pay for it are two different things.

When the Throup Road connector grant funding didn't come through this spring, Council removed the borrowing referendum from the ballot and put the project on the shelf. Without substantial outside funding, Sooke simply cannot afford to build it.

But that doesn't mean we can't make meaningful improvements to traffic now.

We can push the Province to deliver the promised right-turn lane on Sooke Road and complete the Charters Road improvements. These are practical ways to improve traffic flow, address existing bottlenecks and make better use of the roads we already have, without committing taxpayers to a major new road.

We should see what these improvements can achieve before taking on an enormous infrastructure commitment.

Let's improve the roads we have before promising roads we can't afford.

On October 17, vote Sooke Together: Susan Belford, Brian McHattie, Helen Ritts, and Steve Sorensen for Council.
