Sooke Gathering Place: What does a ‘Yes’ vote mean?
There will be an extra question on your ballot this election:
Should Sooke consider borrowing up to $5 million for the Sooke Gathering Place on Wadams Way?
The Gathering Place is a vision that so many people in our community have worked tirelessly to move forward – a welcoming, accessible place for seniors and people of all ages to meet, connect, and belong.
This is a non-binding plebiscite. A YES vote does not approve $5 million in borrowing or give the go-ahead to design and build. It tells Council there is community support to keep exploring the Gathering Place, including the feasibility and potential borrowing.
There are still lots of decisions to come – design, partnerships, grants, other funding and, ultimately, what Sooke can afford. Those conversations come next.
Right now, the question is more fundamental: Do we, as a community, recognize the need and support the vision of a Sooke Gathering Place?
Sooke Together supports both the need and the vision of the Gathering Place and will be voting YES.
A YES vote keeps the vision moving forward.
On Oct. 17, vote Sooke Together: Helen Ritts, Steve Sorensen, Susan Belford and Brian McHattie for Council.
