Meet Helen Ritts

Helen shows up, does the homework, and follows through.

Last year, she came within just 24 votes of winning a seat on Sooke Council in the by-election. She knew she would run again. What she didn't know was how different this election would be. When the landscape changed, Helen joined Brian, Susan and Steve to form Sooke Together.

Helen wants to see a lively, walkable Town Centre with thriving local businesses, public spaces, and better access to our waterfront. She believes it's time to update Sooke's Town Centre Plan so we have a clear community vision for what we want our downtown to become before development decisions make that choice for us.

She's also a big believer in parks and trails – places that connect neighbourhoods, give people of all ages and abilities safe ways to walk and bike, and make everyday life better. She's equally determined to protect the forests, waters, green spaces, and small-town character that make Sooke special.

Helen knows developers have their eye on Sooke, and thoughtful development that helps us achieve our community's vision is welcome. But if there’s one thing she has heard again and again, it's that Sooke doesn’t want to become Langford.

Helen is running to be part of a council that makes sure this doesn’t happen.

On October 17, vote Sooke Together: Susan Belford, Brian McHattie, Helen Ritts, and Steve Sorensen for Council.
