Four firefighters. 24/7

When you call 911, you expect help to be there.

Sooke is growing, and our fire department needs to grow with it. Today, Sooke has 15 career suppression firefighters, complemented by a team of paid-on-call firefighters.

Council has already approved a five-year staffing plan to reach 20 – enough to have four career firefighters available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Why four? At a structure fire, crews need four firefighters on scene before entering a burning building – two inside and two outside, ready to help if something goes wrong.

We support following through on that plan, while continuing to recruit and retain the paid-on-call firefighters who are an important part of Sooke Fire Rescue.

This isn't about starting another plan. It's about finishing the one we've already committed to.
