Who do we support for Mayor? Al Beddows
Al Beddows is a two-term councillor, President of the Sooke Lions Club (again), and a volunteer with the Sooke Food Bank and Sooke Hospice, to name a few. More importantly, we’ve seen Al in Council chambers. He shows up, does his homework, listens, and has a knack for cutting through the noise and finding a workable solution. Watch Al chair a Council meeting and you’ll see why we think he would make a good Mayor. He knows the rules and runs a fair, respectful, and efficient meeting. We know Al as trustworthy, dependable, and honest. When Al tells you something, you can believe him.
We also like what Al is talking about in his campaign: practical decisions, responsible spending, getting infrastructure right, and keeping Council independent. There's a lot of common ground. Al Beddows is delightfully old school. He is about talking face-to-face. He's staying off Facebook for now, but you'll find Al knocking on doors, talking to people at events around town, and at the all-candidates meetings. Al shows up, and he steps up when you need him. We are thankful that he stepped up for Sooke to run for Mayor. With a seven-person slate trying to win every seat, we think Sooke needs an independent Mayor who will work with a diverse Council. The Mayor’s job isn’t to control Council – it’s to lead it.
We purposely did not run a candidate for Mayor and are very pleased to support Al Beddows. We hope you will too.
